All about fossils: Goniatites

A Goniatite from my collection

My fossil is about 1 cm in size.

Goniatites lived 400 million years ago, in the Devonian period. They are a species of Ammonoids.

These animals lived in the ocean in swarms on the reefs. They looked like this:

You can identify it by looking at the pattern on the shell: a round curve, and then a pointed zig-zag.
